Colder times ahead

During the week we have seen the temperature drop and reports of the coldest winter in years forecasted however we continue to provide our weekly Seva of a hot meal to any individuals who require it.

This evening we provided fresh pizzas with chips as well as crisps, biscuits, chocolates and water and served over 20 hot meals.

For those who have only just liked our page or is seeing this post for the first time, the background to our Seva is a group of volunteers came together in April 2016. After speaking to local organisations and charities we decided to offer a hot meal to any individuals who required it.

We are a non profitable organisation, all food is provided via donations and everyone involved are volunteers. A question we are asked each week is why do we do this? Our answer is simple, to spread the message of equality set by our Gurus. Sikhism teaches to share with others and help those with less who are in need.

Each week we see regular faces and new visitors, the feedback remains positive and we will continue to do this Seva each Wednesday at 7.00pm.

Another Wednesday, Another Seva

Our volunteers have just completed this weeks Seva and despite the darker days we were still able to serve over 25 people with hot meals.

This evenings hot meal was lentil curry with Rice as well as water, soft drinks, chocolates, crisps and biscuits also being offered.

We have noticed that people especially regulars are now identifying us each week and understanding the purpose of our Seva. Swindon Sikh Seva Society will be returning next week Wednesday at 7.00pm

Earlier this week, we also reached 500 Facebook followers, we would like to thank all those who follow, share, interact and support our Seva.

***UPDATE***

Apologies for the lack of updates over recent weeks, we can assure you that Swindon Sikh Seva Society have continued to complete their weekly Seva of providing hot meals to those individuals who require it.

We have seen a drop in temperatures this week and this is the time of the year where our Seva will be most required. With this in mind, our Seva will continue each Wednesday as this is the time of the year when it is required the most.

This week we were able to offer fresh pizzas and chips as this evenings hot meal as well as the usual crisps, biscuits and drinks. As per usual the meal was gratefully received from those who required it and we were able to serve 20+ meals.

No Improvement in weather but Seva continues

As the weather continues to be dull and wet, our Seva continued this evening despite this. This evening we were provided with pizza and chips which had been donated. Despite the wet weather we were still able to serve over 20 hot meals to those who required it.

We continue to be visited by new faces as well as regulars. The regular visitors are aware of our Seva and the ideas behind it however we continue to spread the message of our Seva to the new visitors. Our response every week remains the same, to spread the message of equality set by our Gurus. Sikhism teaches to share with others and help those with less who are in need.

We would like to say thanks to all those individuals who have provided food donations over recent weeks. The different variation of donations keeps our Seva going each week and is greatly appreciated by those individuals who require it. Our Seva will continue next week at 7.00pm on Wednesday.

Wet Evening but further support received

Whilst the weather hasn’t been great over the last week or so, our volunteers continued with their weekly Seva and provided over 20 hot meals this evening. Freshly cooked pizzas were donated this week and quickly distributed as well as our usual supplies.

This evening we were joined by members of Swindon Asians Football Club (SAFC) committee who have been made aware of our Seva and the support we are providing to the local community. SAFC have kindly donated t shirts (pictured) to the members of our Seva allowing the public to identify with our Seva and provides a uniformed approach when the public wish to ask questions about the Seva that we are providing weekly.

We would like thank SAFC for their support of our Seva. Our Seva will continue next week at 7.00pm on Wednesday.

Seva keeps going

This evening we have completed our weekly seva and as per the usual weeks we have seen a positive response. This evening we saw over 25 meals being served with people taking time to come and speak to us to understand why we do this each week.

This evenings hot meal was a donation of sholay (chickpea) curry with rice with water, crisps, chocolates, biscuits being made available. A special thanks the volunteers who provided this weeks hot meal.

A further thanks to those people who have donated food for this Seva. Each week we see continued support with various donations being made available to us which helps this Seva to keep going each week.

Same Seva, Same response

Once again we visited our regular location to provide a hot meal to anyone who required and as per usual we were greeted with a positive response, over 20 hot meals were served this evening with others taking items like water, crisps, biscuits and chocolates.

Whilst the number of visitors each week seem to vary each week, our volunteers are always pleased hear positive response from our visitors with regular feedback of how the meals we supply are appreciated.

A thank you to our volunteers who continue to help out each week with donations of food, preparation of hot meals and attending and serving the meals each week.

Why do we do this?

Our volunteers have just returned from this week’s Seva and were able to provide a hot meal to any individuals that require it. Despite the weather we have seen a steady flow of people visiting over the last few weeks. Those individuals who do visit us are always grateful for our efforts and appreciate what we do.

Heatwave continues!

For once we are enjoying some warm weather however there the importance of our Seva is still present in warmer weather just as it is in colder weather. During this weather we find that dehydration can be a big problem for those individuals who visit us.

With this in mind we took extra water and drinks with us this evening to ensure we had enough supplies available. We offered pizza and chips our hot meal and as usual were able to serve over 20 people.

Our Seva will continue each Wednesday at 7.00pm regardless of weather and regardless if 1 person comes or 30 people come.

Another Wednesday, Another Seva

Our volunteers have just completed their weekly seva and we found this evening to be a little bit slower with approx 15-20 meals served.

This evening we served fresh pizza as our hot meal and include drinks, crisps, biscuits for anyone who required it.

Now that the weather is turning and the days are getting better, we believe numbers will increase and we will continue to provide our seva each Wednesday at 7.00pm.
