Our volunteers have just completed their weekly seva and we found this evening to be a little bit slower with approx 15-20 meals served. This evening we served fresh pizza as our hot meal and include drinks, crisps, biscuits for anyone who required it. This evening we have just returned from our weekly seva of providing hot meals to those less fortunate and we were pleased with the turn out. This evening we provided sholay (chickpea) curry with rice and were able to provide 30 hot meals. See more View on facebook 8 years ago Timeline Photos Positive Feedback This evening we saw the return of some familiar faces as well as some new faces. Despite the cold and wet weather we were able to serve over 30 hot meals. The hot meal that was prepared this evening was vegetarian chilli and rice. The meal was prepared by volunteers and we would like to take this opportunity to thank those individuals who have taken time out to prepare the meals. The feedback of the meal was very positive with many people enjoying it. We were stopped and approached by people who wanted to understand what we were doing and why, even though they were not in need of a hot meal they appreciate our efforts and certain people were surprised that we are not being funded by the council. The seva we provide is completely voluntary with no monies involved. All food is prepared and supplied by volunteers and we would like to thank all of those people who have donated and allowed us to keep this important seva going. ... See more View on facebook 8 years ago This week we were able to offer fresh pizzas as this evenings hot meal. As per usual the meal was gratefully received from those who required it. Different to previous weeks, we have seen an increase of visitors and we continue to ensure all of the prepared food is distributed and there is no waste. We have noticed that people especially regulars are now identifying us each week and understanding the purpose of our Seva. Swindon Sikh Seva Society will be returning next week Wednesday at 7.00pm. See more View on facebook 8 years ago On this wet Wednesday night, we have just returned from our weekly Seva and found that this evening has been the same as the last few weeks with the cold weather impacting the number of people visiting us for a hot meal. This evening were donated freshly cooked pasta alongside buttered bread rolls. We were able to serve 20+ hot meals. For those that visited us, we received positive feedback about our Seva and how grateful they are for the Seva we provide. As usual, thanks for all volunteers involved who have taken time out to continue this Seva which is being appreciated each week. Despite the cold weather that we have experienced recently, we were not discouraged and continued with this weeks Seva. Once again, offering freshly cooked pasta along with crisps, chocolates, biscuits and other refreshments we were able to provide food to over 20 people. Since the start of our feed the less fortunate project we have consistently supplied meals/refreshments to 35+ people each week with a running total of over 1100+ being served. A combination of rain and cold weather resulted in not many people turning out for our Seva. We were still able to distribute all the prepared food which was Pizza and chips this evening. After speaking to some individuals, it appears that people have been moved from known locations as some of our volunteers attempted to find them. Our Seva has been ongoing since April last year, the most common question we are asked each week is "Why do you do this?" Whilst those individuals who require these meals are more aware about our Seva, we will continue to share the same message each week. Sikhism teaches us to give back selflessly to whose who are in need. As the evenings are getting colder, we are still setting up our weekly Seva and this week was no different. We offered fresh pizzas this evening as well as the usual crisps, chocolates, water and other refreshments. This evening we were able to serve over 20+ hot meals. We heard this evening over the last few colder days how some individuals are struggling and how thankful they are for our Seva. As per the same trend as the last few weeks we have seen a decrease in number of people visiting us however we were still able to serve 20+ hot meals. Our volunteers continue to visit known areas and provide meals and snacks to those individuals who require it. This evening we served freshly cooked pasta. The food this evening was prepared and donated by Emma Blaxter and Amie Poole-Thompson so a special thanks to both of you. Additionally, we would like to say thanks for the donations of crisps, biscuit bars and soup that we have received.
