East meets West

Another seva completed this evening, this evening we offered samosas and chips as our hot meal and were able to serve over 20 meals.

Due to the warmer weather we had extra supplies of water for those to required it and will continue to ensure we have additional water available during the warmer months.

We were approached by some visitors and started to discuss the terrible events which occurred in Manchester earlier this week and we would like to take a moment to share our thoughts and condolences with all those affected.

The message that we (and Sikhs in general) believe in is that before caste, colour, religion, we are all one. We continue our seva next week.

Wet evening but busy

Our volunteers have just returned from this weeks Seva and even though it is wet outside it didn’t stop us from supply our weekly hot meal which was pizzas this week.

This evening we were busier than usual and found all of our meals were served rather quickly. Some people stopped this evening just to understand how we are covering what we do online, we explained the background to the Facebook page and our website.

We will be setting up again next Wednesday at 7.00pm on Carfax Close to provide our weekly Seva.

Warmer weather, same Seva

As the weather has taken a nicer turn we have seen once again a positive response from our Seva. This evening we served 20+ meals to those who required it as we ordered in fresh pizzas.

As we noticed last summer, the less fortunate required bottle water in the warm weather to ensure they kept hydrated. As as the weather improves (hopefully) our Seva will continue to ensure that a meal is provided along with drinks/water.

Should anyone require further information about our Seva and how they can get involved then please message us.

Another weekly Seva completed

This evening we found yet another positive response to our weekly Seva despite the windy weather. For this weeks Seva we provided pizza and chips which as usual had a good response.

We were able to serve over 20 people this evening with various people commenting on how thankful they were for our Seva. A mixture of regulars as well as new faces visited us this evening.
A thanks to Simon Howard to provided various donations for our Seva.
We will continue our Seva each Wednesday at 7.00pm for anyone who requires a hot meal.

Over the last few weeks we have seen an increased number of people inquiring about our Seva , mainly due to the coverage in the Swindon Advertiser and BBC. The comments we have received vary from people asking for information on how to get involved to some people just offering their appreciation for what we do.

Should anyone have any questions or require further information on how to get involved then please message us.

Lots of activity

Last week we were contacted by BBC Points West who were made aware of our Seva and the work that we have been doing. After a few discussions, Points West agreed to come and visit our Seva to see first hand what we do and the response we get.

This evening our volunteers prepared pasta at the Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) and then distributed at our regular location on Carfax Close. Similar to each week, we have seen a positive response with many people thankful for the meals that we are providing. Additionally we offered crisps, drinks, biscuits , ice lollies.

We would like to say a special thank you to Simon, a passer-by who saw our Seva and kindly went and donated fresh coffees for those individuals who require it.

One of the questions we were asked by Points West was how long do we plan on continuing our Seva, our response was simple, it is ongoing for the foreseeable future. We have seen an extremely positive response and would again like to thank all those people who have volunteered their time and for those who provided donations.

A special thanks to Michelle at Points West for taking the time out to visit our Seva. The coverage is expected to air on Monday evening however we will provide further updates should this change.

One year Anniversary!

This evening marks the one year anniversary of the Swindon Sikh Seva Society. 12 months ago, a handful of volunteers decided to get together and give back to those who are less fortunate.

Over the past 12 months we have able to provide a weekly hot meal to anyone who requires one with the total number of hot meals served exceeding 1500.

This evening, we have seen a busier than normal evening with new visitors as well as some regulars. This evenings hot meal was vegetarian chilli with rice freshly prepared by volunteers. We additionally offered the normal snacks like crisps, chocolates and biscuits. A thanks to Bethan Trueman who joined us this evening and provided food donations.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those individuals who have support our seva since its start, for those people who have given up their time to help out as well all those people who have kindly donated food.

The response we have received over the last 12 months has been extremely positive and although we have faced challenges particular during the cold months, we are motivated to continue this voluntary seva going.

52 Weeks down…

This evening we have completed our weekly seva and as per the usual weeks we have seen a positive response. This evening we saw over 25 meals being served with people taking time to come and speak to us to understand why we do this each week.
