Great Response
15th Week and still going
Spreading the message
Whilst most people were making plans to watch Wales progression in the European Championships, our volunteers have just returned from this weeks seva.
We were visited by many new faces as well as regulars this week who were thankful as ever for our help. Once again we offered hot pasta with a quorn mix freshly cooked this evening. We would like to thank the volunteers who provided donations and took the time to prepare the food this week.
Over recent weeks we have been increasingly asked who we are and what we do. We have designed a pop up banner which will help explain our reasons behind performing this Seva.
With the assistance of the banner we found a lot more people took time to have a look and read the information about what we do and why. A special thanks to Amandeep who has taken the time out to prepare the graphics for the banner.
Wet Wednesday, Seva continues
More questions and involvement
Each Wednesday we continue to setup our seva and provide meals and snacks to anyone who requires it and this week was no different.
Hot pasta was offered once again, with over 25 meals provided which were greatly received. Additionally, crisps/chocolates/biscuits were also offered
During the last week or so, we have seen more questions from the public as to how they can get involved or volunteer with the Seva that we are doing.
Our message remains the same as each week, we welcome anyone who would like to volunteer and further details can be provided by contacting us.
We would like to add a point that some people were under the impression that we are doing this seva forcefully. This certainly is not the case. We are all volunteers and are simply aiming to help out those who are less fortunate. As mentioned in previous posts, selfless service is a key part of Sikhism.
More Hot Meals Served
Earlier this week we learned that a homeless individual passed away over the weekend, this really bought home the importance of the seva we are doing.
In recent weeks we have seen a great acceptance from those individuals who required hot food, a drink or even just a basic snack like a chocolate bar or crisps.
This evening we returned with our usual offering of freshly cooked pasta and again we were able to distribute all the hot food with no waste by setting up on Carfax close while some of our volunteers visited known spots across town to provide the meal.
Thanks to all the volunteers who attended on this gloomy, wet evening.
Another Seva Completed
This week we opted to supply a different type of hot meal. Prepared by our volunteers, vegetarian burgers with salad and chips were prepared for anyone who required a hot meal.
As usual, we provided a wide selection of soft drinks, water, chocolates and crisps. We choose to provide this seva to give back selfless to those in need and it is more than appreciated by those individuals.
One gentleman commented that he was so hungry and he genuinely did not know where his next meal was coming from.
We would like send a special thanks to volunteers Harpal and Simran who took the time to prepare this evenings hot food and another thanks to all those who have donated food.
Another Seva completed
In recent week we have found our volunteers have struggled to locate people around town who are unable to come to our location for hot meals.
This evening we were joined by Teresa from the Swindon Earth Angels who assisted some of the volunteers in locating individuals who require meals and as a result we were able to provide more than 20 hot meals this week.
Once again we found what was a full saucepan at the start of the evening soon turned into an empty one.
We would like to thank Teresa for her support and also like to thank the volunteers new and old who assisted with the food prep.
Busier than usual…
Today marked our 8th Seva of feeding those less fortunate. We have been completing this Seva for two months now and as the word has spread we found this evening to be busier than usual.
Setting up at our normal time of 7.00pm, we had a handful of regular visitors waiting for our arrival. Within 20 minutes of setting up we had provided over 30 hot meals.
Once again we would like to thank volunteers (new and regular) who have taken time out to help as well as provide food/water donations. Although not all of the items were distributed this evening they will be used over the coming weeks.
