See more View on facebook 6 years ago **** Update **** We have been approached by many to find out if our Seva has still be ongoing, we can continue it has been. We have continued to set up each Wednesday since our last update. We have seen the numbers vary each week but our Seva continues to provide a meal to those who require it and each week we are told how thankful the individuals who visit us are for the meals we are providing. This evening we were joined by Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints who kindly provided donations for this evenings Seva. Pizzas as well as crisps, water and drinks were donated. As usual we would like to thank for those we have taken time to volunteer, donate and support our Seva. Our Seva will continue again next week located on College Street (behind Tesco Metro). ... See more View on facebook 6 years ago Apologies for the lack of updates over the recent weeks. Despite no updates being posted our Seva has continued each Wednesday as we are now approaching nearly two and half years since our Seva was set up. For those that are seeing this post for the first time, we are a non profit organisation who are simply giving back to those in need. A question asked each week is "Why do you do this?" our response remains the same, Sikhism teaches us to give back selflessly to whose who are in need. Over the last weeks we have been varying numbers which certain weeks being more busier than others. We have continued to provide a hot meal each Wednesday alongside water, crisps and biscuits etc. As usual we would like to thank for those we have taken time to volunteer, donate and support our Seva. Our Seva will continue again next week located on College Street (behind Tesco Metro). ... See more View on facebook 6 years ago On this hot summer's evening we have just completed our weekly Seva. This week we took into consideration the hot weather and ensured additional water was available as this appeared to be required. This evening we provided freshly cooked pizzas as a meal as well offering the usual snacks and refreshments. The response was extremely positive this week with all items taken within 30 minutes of us setting up. As usual, thanks for all volunteers involved who have taken time out to continue this Seva which is being appreciated each week by those individuals who are making use of it. Our Seva will continue again next week on Wednesday at 7.00pm. ... See more View on facebook 6 years ago This week we were able to offer fresh pizzas as this evenings hot meal. As per usual the meal was gratefully received from those who required it. We have seen an increase of visitors and we continue to ensure all of the prepared food is distributed and there is no waste. We have noticed that people especially regulars are now identifying us each week and understanding the purpose of our Seva. Swindon Sikh Seva Society will be returning next week Wednesday at 7.00pm. We would like to thank those volunteers who have provided donations this week and continue to support our Seva. ... See more View on facebook 6 years ago New location, same Seva Whilst we have seen access to our previous location closed off, this has not stopped our Seva. Over the last few weeks we have been setting up on College Street (by Tesco Metro). Initially our volunteers were visiting our regular location to inform individuals that we have now moved and now word has spread which results in regular and new faces visiting us each week. This week we offered fresh pasta and garlic bread as our hot meal and offered the usual crisps, biscuits, water for those who require it. While we say this most week, we would like to thank all those individuals who have volunteered their time, provided donations and continue to support our Seva. With this continued support, we will be able to provide this much needed service to those who require it each week. ... See more View on facebook 6 years ago Photos from Swindon Sikh Seva Society's post **Two year Anniversary** In April 2016, a group of volunteers got together and formed Swindon Sikh Seva Society, the main purpose of this was to give back to the community and to support those in needs. We are now proud to say, we celebrate our 2nd anniversary. Each Wednesday for the last two years regardless of the weather, we have provided those individuals in need with a hot meal and food. During this period we have heard of many stories of the difficult times that people faced. Each week we are always told how thankful they are of the Seva provided. We would like to thank all of those who have taken an interest in our Seva, as well as donated and supported our Seva during this period. This evening was no different than usual, we have found that the road leading towards Carfax Close is now closed however this has not stopped us from providing our Seva from our usual location just by the Flemming way underpass. While the weather has improved we continue to see regular faces who required a hot meal. This evening, Pasta was freshly prepared shortly before we began serving. Our Seva will continue again next week at 7.00pm on Wednesday. We would also like to take this opportunity to wish Sikhs across the world a Happy Vaisakhi. Vaisakhi marks the birth of the Khalsa (way of living in the Sikh religion) and is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar. ... See more View on facebook 6 years ago This week we offered fresh pizzas as our hot meal, with the usual water, canned drinks, chocolates, biscuits and crisps being offered. After a bit of a slow start we saw some regular faces and some new faces that required our Seva. A thanks to Bhupinder Johal and her colleagues in the Finance department at Zurich for this weeks donations. The pizzas as well as crisps, drinks, biscuits etc were donated from the proceeds of the World Food Buffet held by the team at Zurich. This isn't the first time that we have received donations from the Zurich and we welcome the donations that are provided. We will be setting up next Wednesday as normal at 7.00pm on Carfax Close (by Fleming Way underpass). ... See more View on facebook 6 years ago Same Seva, Same response. Once again we visited our regular location to provide a hot meal to anyone who required and as per usual we were greeted with a positive response, over 20 hot meals were served this evening with others taking items like water, crisps, biscuits and chocolates. Whilst the number of visitors each week seem to vary each week, our volunteers are always pleased hear positive response from our visitors with regular feedback of how the meals we supply are appreciated. Additionally, this afternoon we attend HOSTS (Homeless Alliance) Spring forum held at the Civic offices. It was a good opportunity to find out what other organisations are doing to help and to share our findings while doing our Seva. Our Seva will continue again next week on Wednesday at 7.00pm. ... See more View on facebook 6 years ago Photos from Swindon Sikh Seva Society's post After the adverse weather conditions over the last week or so we found this evening's Seva was like previous weeks. As mentioned, last week we found very little visitors to our Seva as many people were off the streets given the conditions. This evening we found it to be busier than last week as we were visited by some regulars and offered the usual warm food as well water, crisps and biscuits. The hot meal prepared this evening was lentil curry with bread rolls and scones which was greatly received. We would like to thank all of those volunteers who take time out to support and donate to our Seva. We will be continuing next Wednesday at 7.00pm on Carfax Close. ...
