6 Months later

This evening’s Seva was slightly different in choice, someone of our volunteers prepared vegetarian noodle stir fry with spring rolls.

As per usual the meals were greatly received by those who required it with a total of 40+ meals served and distributed this evening. Additionally, we were able to provide baklava which was also consumed.

We would especially like to thank our volunteers Simran and Harpal who took time out to freshly prepare these meals just before they were distributed.

Additionally, today marks a special date, our weekly Seva has now be established for 6 months. We would like to thank all those people who have taken an interest, volunteered, provided donations and spread the message of Swindon Sikh Seva Society. We will continue to move forward with our Seva and we hope it continues to have the same positive impact.

Another week, another seva

On this windy evening we have just completed our weekly seva of providing the homeless a hot meal. As per usual the response was positive with comments from certain individuals along of the lines of “you don’t realise how much we appreciate this”.

Over the last week or so we have an increase number of people liking the Swindon Sikh Seva Society page and thanks to all those who have passed on their comments or asked questions.

If anyone has any questions about how to get involved then please message us.

Preparing for colder months

As the days are now getting shorter and darker we are still seeing a positive response from our weekly Seva.

This week we took time out and spoke to those who required a meal asking about where they will be over the colder winter months. We understand that some individuals will not want to come to our set location in fear that someone might take their area where they are staying.

With this in mind, we are prepared to do food drops to those locations as we do each week.

We met some individuals who were really struggling being homeless and it hit home how appreciated our Seva is. Although it won’t provide all the answers we would like to think our efforts help out in some way.

Greatly appreciated

Once again, we have seen an busy evening as we have just completed our weekly Seva. We have now been able to make those individual who require a hot meal aware where and when be providing our Seva and some regulars are now waiting for us.

This evening we were able to serve 40+ hot pasta meals. Each week we are being asked regularly what is the purpose of us doing this Seva and our answers are very simple….we are giving back to those who are less fortunate.

We would like to thank the gentleman who visited us this evening with donations of crisps and chocolates as they were quickly consumed. If anyone else is interested in providing donations then please contact us on our here or on our Facebook page.

Another successful Seva

On another busier than usual evening we have just completed this weeks Seva and were able to supply over 30 hot meals.

During the summer we have found individuals who require a meal are now aware of the Seva that we are offering and as such are normally waiting for us to set up.

img-20160907-wa0010img-20160907-wa0009img-20160907-wa0011

This evening we offered hot pasta as well as water to prevent dehydration during this humid weather. As usual our efforts were greatly appreciated by those individuals requiring a meal or simply a drink.

Some of our volunteers took time to speak some of these individuals to understand their circumstances and explain the purpose behind our Seva.

Back to usual offerings

After a few weeks of offering different hot meals such as chips, pizza, we returned this evening with freshly cooked pasta.

Similar message each week, those who required a meal were grateful for our offerings and often messages of people being unsure where their next meal was coming from.

Some of our volunteers were able to find some of those individuals who were forced to move from certain areas of the town. Our volunteers continue to provide meals at the usual location on Carfax Close and some of our volunteers visited areas of town and dropped off meals for those who were unable to come to us.

Humid evening, same response

This week we were able to offer fresh pizzas as this evenings hot meal. As per usual the meal was gratefully received from those who required it.

We took in mind the recent weather conditions and as such took extra water/drinks which proved to be required with many people commenting on how they were dehydrated.

Each week we are being increasingly asked why we do this and we were able to refer people to our banner which was on site and offered a good visual information for people to take on board.

We have noticed that people are now identifying us each week and understanding the purpose of our Seva. Swindon Sikh Seva Society will be returning next week Wednesday at 7.00pm.

Busiest Seva yet

We have just returned from this weeks Seva and the response this week was overwhelming, by far one of the busiest Seva yet we served over 35 people this evening. To make a change from our normal hot meal, this week we offered chips with bread as well as our usual selections of drink, crisps and chocolates.

We were able to provide a hot meal to all those who required it and we were also able to provide drinks and crisps to others.

One of our volunteers spoke to an individual who required a meal, his feedback was extremely positive and showed our Seva is now starting get across the key principles of Sikhism.

The gentleman commented “I did not know who you guys were at first, we all thought “Asians”. A couple of weeks ago one of you guys, a Sikh guy came up to me and said do you want some food? I said yes. I thought he was going to throw half a burger at me or something. But he gave me pakoras (onion bhajis). Now I know you’re Sikhs. I was ignorant. I know who you are now. I have respect for you all”.

Feedback like the above inspires us to keep going each week and provide this Seva is greatly appreciated.

Another Wednesday, Another Seva

Once again this Wednesday, Swindon Sikh Seva Society have completed another Seva of feeding meals to those who are less fortunate.

To ensure we offer nutritious hot meals, this week we offered freshly cooked sholay (chick peas) with samosas as well as snacks such as biscuit bars, crisps and chocolates.

Each week we are seeing and hearing further feedback from those who require these meals how thankful for they are for the hot meals and our contribution.

We will continue to set up each Wednesday at 7.00pm on Carfax Close by Fleming Way underpass should anyone require a hot meal.

Continued effort by our volunteers

On this windy summer’s evening we have just completed our weekly Seva, offering our usual snacks and refreshments.

The response was extremely positive this week with all items taken within 30 minutes of us setting up.

We had positive feedback from those in need of the food and were visited by weekly regulars as well as new people.

As usual, thanks for all volunteers involved who have taken time out to continue this Seva which is being appreciated each week. We would also like to thank those individuals who have donated food to this Seva.
