With the new faces, we explained what we do and why. As each week progresses we find that the message is spreading with a handful of people waiting for our arrival . This week, we served freshly cooked pasta, prepared by volunteers just minutes before we attended our usual location to distribute. Over 20 hot meals were served this evening as well as the usual offerings of crisps, water, chocolate and biscuits. Some visitors were concerned that during the colder months, we would not attend. During the week we have seen the temperature drop and reports of the coldest winter in years forecasted however we continue to provide our weekly Seva of a hot meal to any individuals who require it. This evening we provided fresh pizzas with chips as well as crisps, biscuits, chocolates and water and served over 20 hot meals. For those who have only just liked our page or is seeing this post for the first time, the background to our Seva is a group of volunteers came together in April 2016. After speaking to local organisations and charities we decided to offer a hot meal to any individuals who required it. We are a non profitable organisation, all food is provided via donations and everyone involved are volunteers. A question we are asked each week is why do we do this? Our answer is simple, to spread the message of equality set by our Gurus. Sikhism teaches to share with others and help those with less who are in need. See more View on facebook 8 years ago Another Wednesday, Another Seva Our volunteers have just completed this weeks Seva and despite the darker days we were still able to serve over 25 people with hot meals. This evenings hot meal was lentil curry with Rice as well as water, soft drinks, chocolates, crisps and biscuits also being offered. We have noticed that people especially regulars are now identifying us each week and understanding the purpose of our Seva. See more View on facebook 8 years ago Seva Contines... On this cold, wet evening our team have just returned from completing this weeks Seva. We found that as the temperature has dropped, certain individuals are finding it harder and as such were greatly appreciative of the hot meal and our Seva. This week we offered sholey (chickpea curry) with rice and pakoras and found a quantity of people waiting for us when we set up. Additionally, we were donated a bag full of clothes which will be provided to those individuals who require it. See more View on facebook 8 years ago Photos from Swindon Sikh Seva Society's post ***UPDATE*** Apologies for the lack of updates over recent weeks, we can assure you that Swindon Sikh Seva Society has continued to complete their weekly Seva of providing hot meals to those individuals who require it. We have seen a drop in temperatures this week and this is the time of the year where our Seva will be most required. With this in mind, our Seva will continue each Wednesday as this is the time of the year when it is required the most. We have seen an increase of visitors and we continue to ensure all of the prepared food is distributed and there is no waste. See more View on facebook 8 years ago More of the same On this Wednesday night, we have just returned from our weekly Seva and found that this evening has been the same as the last few weeks with nothing specific impacting the number of people visiting us for a hot meal. This evening were donated freshly cooked Pizza and chips. We were able to serve 20+ hot meals. For those that visited us, we received positive feedback about our Seva and how grateful they are for the Seva we provide. See more View on facebook 8 years ago Another seva completed Yesterday evening our voulenterrs completed their usual weekly Seva and supplied hot meals in the form of Pizzas to those invididuals who required it. Whilst we saw a quieter week than last week we were able talk with some visitors about our Seva and their situation in general. It is pleasing to hear that how thankful individuals are of our Seva with many stating we are not aware of how helpful it is to them. We were stopped by one passer by who was previously in a similar situation and visited our Seva in the past but now he has managed to find and job and got back on his feet, he was happy to see the Seva we are providing and commented on how he was pleased to see that our Seva was still going. See more View on facebook 8 years ago Busier than usual Our volunteers set up yesterday once again for our weekly Seva of helping the less fortunate. The hot meal prepared this week was Sholay (chickpea) curry with rice as well as crisps, chocolates, biscuits, water and soft drinks being made available. After a steady few weeks we seen an increase yesterday evening with over 30 hot meals served. With the days getting shorter and Autumn approaching we will continue to offer hot meals each Wednesday at 7.00pm on Carfax Close. See more View on facebook 8 years ago No Improvement in weather but Seva continues As the weather continues to be dull and wet, our Seva continued this evening despite this. This evening we were provided with pizza and chips which had been donated. Despite the wet weather we were still able to serve over 20 hot meals to those who required it. We continue to be visited by new faces as well as regulars. The regular visitors are aware of our Seva and the ideas behind it however we continue to spread the message of our Seva to the new visitors. Our response every week remains the same, to spread the message of equality set by our Gurus. Sikhism teaches to share with others and help those with less who are in need. We would like to say thanks to all those individuals who have provided food donations over recent weeks.
